How Letting Go Can Bring You Closer to What You Want

Why wanting less can sometimes give you more.

Have you ever wanted something so badly it felt like your life was on pause?

An open hand holding a small white piece of paper that says: Let it go.

In this post, I want to share a simple shift that helped me move forward when effort alone wasn’t enough. And, how letting go can actually bring you closer to what you want.

At the risk of sounding hokey and new agey, I suggest this: set it free.

If you've done everything humanly possible to achieve what it is you want, and I do mean everything, then release the want.

The want is holding you back.

Let it go.

The Three-Part Letting Go Process

  1. Get honest about what you want

As yourself what you’re truly longing for (not the surface desire) but the deeper need beneath it.

  2. Take Meaningful, Logical Action

Not busywork. Not wheel-spinning. Only actions that genuinely increase the likelihood of change.

  3. Release the Want—On Purpose

When you’ve done all you can, consciously let go. Make the release meaningful. Let life move again.

Maybe it’s writing the want down and throwing away the paper.

Maybe it’s saying out loud, "I’ve done my part."

Maybe it’s choosing to stop checking, refreshing, waiting.

If all of this sounds familiar, you are not failing. I wrote this post because I needed to hear it myself! This isn’t about giving up. It’s about trusting yourself. Just so you know, you’re allowed to want something and still live your life.

Letting go doesn’t mean you didn’t care enough. It means you cared deeply. It means you trust life enough to stop gripping so tightly. Whatever you’re waiting for, I hope you find peace before it arrives.

If this resonated with you, I’d love to hear what you’re trying to achieve and what you’re trying to let go of.
