The Human Mind is Quite the Machine

Drive.

Inner drive. The human mind is quite the machine. It can be quite the motivator...but only if allowed to. It can also be quite the sabotager. Think about a time when you talked yourself out of achieving or experiencing success, a time you lost your drive. What did you say to yourself to lose your way? And more importantly, why did you say those negative things to yourself?

When you figure out the "why" of self-sabotage it takes the power away from the whole nasty process. The power lies in the "pause and drill down reflection" because you allow the motivator within to come out from the shadows, get a good meal, bulk up a bit. Stop starving her/him.

You and your inner-motivator gain impressive momentum when you figure out why you're telling yourself that you can't, that you're not good enough, not smart enough, pretty enough, exerienced enough, etc.... Like, seriously, why in the world are you listening to that jerk?

Here's what drive looks like for me, aka, a writer:

  • Write and write a lot, especially when that annoying voice tells me I can't.

  • Never waver from my dreams. Ever. No matter what.

  • Only let rejection hurt for a short amount of time. I'm not a robot. I have to allow myself to cry and feel frustration and even throw a short-lived pity party. It feels good. But then I move on and get right back to it.

  • Keep doing my best on social media. Is it a slog sometimes? Yes, yes it is. Do I oftentimes feel like I'm in a vacuum? Yes, yes it does. But maybe, one day, one of my posts will strike a chord.

Get behind your wheel and drive! Go for it.

What does drive mean to you?
